Navigating the Insurance Maze

At Pella Regional, patients who are scheduled for surgery or who plan to have a new baby in the next nine months are asked to talk with a Patient Advocate who will help review insurance and help patient's understand the financial impact of medical services at Pella Regional.

Because today’s insurance policies come with significantly higher co-pays and deductibles, patients are likely to face larger out-of-pocket expenses for health care. Patient Advocates at Pella Regional help patients prepare for the cost, understand the payment process and avoid financial surprises.

For those who are planning for a surgical procedure, the specific insurance situation and the doctor’s recommended procedure will be reviewed. Then, an estimate of the out-of-pocket costs beyond what insurance will cover will be provided as well as a plan to find the best method of payment.

While having a baby is a joyous event to celebrate, it can also be a time of stress for many people as they look ahead to medical bills. Pella Regional’s patient advocates will review  individual insurance benefits and send a letter so expecting parents know what to expect. They can also set up a payment plan ahead of delivery so that the bills are more manageable once baby is born.
