Pella Regional Welcomes First Baby of 2016

Baby Gunner Arrives Jan 4

Rowe FamilyPELLA, Iowa –Pella Regional Health Center’s first baby of 2016 is a little boy—Gunner Lee, born at 7:58 am on January 4. He weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 13 ¾ inches long. His parents are Kyle and Ashly Rowe of Melcher.

While Gunner was Pella Regional’s first baby in 2016, 481 babies were born at the hospital in 2015. There were 241 boys and 240 girls. The heaviest baby was 11 pounds 4 ounces and the longest was 23 inches.

The #1 most popular names for boys and girls included:

Boy: Liam

Girl: Addilyn, Norah, and Macy (numerous spellings)

The Rowe family is thrilled that Gunner has arrived. Craig Wittenberg, MD, was their obstetrics physician throughout the pregnancy. “We had a few different challenges but got through them,” said Ashly. Most of their prenatal visits with Dr. Wittenberg were at Pella Regional’s Medical Clinic in Knoxville as it was more convenient.

Gunner was in breech position so a Caesarean section was scheduled. Kyle appreciated that their surgeon, Mike Thompson, DO, explained everything beforehand so they knew what to expect. “It was amazing afterward. Once he went to his mom for skin to skin he instantly stopped crying,” said Kyle with a smile.
