Pella Regional Nurse, Deb Davis, 100 Great Iowa Nurses
PELLA, Iowa— Pella Regional Health Center is proud to announce that Deb Davis, Director of Surgery, was selected as 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2017.
Davis and the other 2017 honorees gathered on Sunday, May 7 at the beginning of Nurse Week in Des Moines with their family, friends and colleagues, as well as past recipients, to be recognized for their outstanding careers and achievements.
The following are excerpts from Deb Davis’ nomination:
“From the time Deb started at Pella Regional she was known as a positive, upbeat addition to our staff, caring for patients and their families who were left with an impression of a compassionate individual who cared for each of them as if they were family.”
“During her tenure, Deb has overseen the build of a new operating room. The design was a collaborative effort between surgeons, anesthesia and nursing, but definitely had Deb’s touch in the details that became so crucial to a well-functioning operating room. She did such an excellent job that it has become a showcase for robotic surgery rooms in the Midwest region. In the end, what Deb wanted was the best for patients who come to Pella Regional and put their lives in the hands of our team.”
“When Deb took the leadership role, we were facing a larger case load and staff was often staying late, leading to burnout and fatigue. Deb found a creative solution by meeting with staff to brainstorm, and then coming up with an extended hours schedule that would allow a late shift to take on the late day cases, thereby allowing first shift to go home on time. The model, along with other scheduling tweaks, has been essential for staff retention in surgery.”
