Lyle Vander Meiden, Hospice Volunteer of 2020

PELLA, Iowa— Lyle Vander Meiden, volunteer at Hospice of Pella, is Pella Regional’s 2020 Hospice Volunteer of the Year.Lyle volunteer of the year 2020

Volunteers have served in many capacities within Hospice of Pella over the years. Volunteers provide companionship for patients and relief for caregivers by letting them take a break from the bedside. They help with transportation needs, including errands and rides to and from appointments. Their role is instrumental in the care of patients and families in hospice care. Service may have looked different this year due to COVID-19, but volunteers still served in appropriate ways and we are grateful for their support and generosity.

“Lyle is always willing to help whenever we call,” said Beth Loux, volunteer coordinator at Hospice of Pella. He delivers equipment, supplies or medications to our patients. He serves at the Comfort House, helps with events and is the unofficial caretaker of our van. He goes the extra mile! It’s not just the tasks he helps with, but the way he goes about it. He’s a good listener, encourager and kindhearted man. We’re blessed to have him on our team!”
