Hospice of Pella Offers Community Respite Care

PELLA, Iowa— Hospice of Pella at Pella Regional Health Center offers respite care for caregivers in the community. Respite care is a helpful option for family caregivers who need a short break from the demands of caregiving for sick, aging, or disabled family members.

Respite care is offered for up to five days for those not under hospice care. If a longer time is needed, staff will evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis depending on availability of accommodations at that time.  “Respite care typically does not come to mind when people think about services Hospice provides,” said Erica Marvelli, Director of Home Health and Hospice, at Pella Regional. “Respite care is provided to non-hospice patients who are mostly independent but need some assistance while their caregivers are away. We are happy to provide that beneficial service to the community.”

If a caregiver is interested in respite care, they can call Hospice of Pella at 641-620-5050. The patient will need to bring their medications and personal items and Hospice will provide meals, room, and staff to aid the patient during their respite stay. Respite care is not covered under insurance and is private pay.
