Continued Care for Patients after Surgery

PELLA, Iowa— Pella Regional Health Center recently changed how rehabilitation care is provided for patients following surgery. For patients recovering from hip, knee and other major surgeries, care was previously provided in our Skilled Care Unit, located in the older section of the hospital. This summer, we transitioned Rehab Care to our newer addition on the Med/Surg Floor. Patients will receive their rehabilitation through a “Swing Bed” program that allows us to deliver therapy services, 24/7 skilled nursing care, medication assistance and more in our spacious and comfortable medical/surgical floor. The Swing Bed program does not affect how patients’ out-of-pocket expenses are covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

“Over the past several weeks, we tested this switch with patients and staff,” said Yvonne O’Brien Evans, Chief Nursing Officer at Pella Regional Health Center. “We learned that patients are continuing to receive excellent care, and it allows us to more efficiently schedule our rehab and nursing staff to ensure the best patient service during their stay at Pella Regional.”
