Wound Care

Pella Regional Health Center provides comprehensive, outpatient wound care in order to promote healing and improve quality of life. The goal is not only to heal wounds, but to prevent wound recurrence and help patients on the road to good health.

Dealing with Problem Wounds

There are many different types of wounds. Some are associated with complications from diabetes and other related vascular disorders. Other types include pressure sores and traumatic wounds. It can be very frustrating and time consuming to heal these wounds.

Your First Appointment

  • detailed history and assessment
  • individualized treatment plan
  • coordination of care with appropriate services and specialties

It is our goal to work in support of the patient’s primary care physician--making communication a top priority.

Treatment Program

Wound care patients undergo a thorough examination to identify the type of wound and the underlying problems causing the wound. After this, a program specifically tailored to the patient’s needs will begin based on the most effective treatment options. Treatment may include:

  • Dressing changes
  • Compression therapy
  • Debridement
  • Pain management
  • Patient and family education

Follow Up

Once a treatment plan has begun, wound care appointments are scheduled on a regular basis. Patients are instructed on how to administer wound care at home between visits, as well as how to protect wounds from further complications.

The patient is the most important part of the healing process. Keeping appointments and following directions clearly are critical to a positive outcome.

Pella Regional’s wound care nurses also work with patients who are dealing with ostomy and continence issues.
