Iowa Ranks Third Best in Nation for Emergency Department Times

Date: July 26, 2007

National average for time spent in the ED is 240 minutes,
Iowa average is 167 minutes, PRHC’s average is 94.2 minutes

Patients that choose the Emergency Department at Pella Regional Health Center (PRHC) can be assured that they spend less time in the Emergency Room than patients even in neighboring states.

According to a recent Press Ganey Associates report with 2006 data, the national average of time spent in the Emergency Department was 240 minutes. Iowa ranked third best in the nation with an average of 167 minutes. According to PRHC data, PRHC stacks up better than the national and even the Iowa average—patients at PRHC spend an average of  94.2 minutes in the Emergency Department.

“It is our goal to provide care and attention to each patient in a quick and efficient manner with the resources that they may require,” says Jan Chapman, Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department at PRHC.  “That means some patients could be seen in 60 minutes, some could be seen in four hours. We want to spend as much time with each patient as they need,” adds Chapman.
