Pella Regional Generates Large Impact on Local Economy
Date: February 9, 2009
Pella Regional Health Center produces 827 jobs that add $35,145,242 to Marion County’s economy, according to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association. In addition, Pella Regional’s employees contribute $8,365,140 in taxable retail sales.
“Pella Regional Health Center is more than just a health care facility,” said Bob Kroese, CEO. “We also have a dramatic positive impact on the economic health of the communities we serve.”
The IHA study examined the jobs, income, retail sales and sales tax produced by hospitals and the rest of the state’s health care sector. The study was compiled from hospital-submitted data on the American Hospital Association Annual Survey of Hospitals and with software that other industries have used to determine the economic impact.
Iowa’s community hospitals generate 149,096 jobs that add more than $5.8 billion to the state’s economy. In addition, Iowa hospital employees by themselves spend nearly $1.9 billion on retail sales and contribute more than $112 million in state sales tax revenue.
