Dr. Wittmer was born and raised in central Kansas. He completed undergraduate and medical education at the University of Kansas. He completed internal medicine residency and pulmonary/critical care fellowships at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, sleep medicine and critical care medicine. His areas of special interest include pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, interventional pulmonary procedures and critical care.
