The Pella Regional Health Center Foundation was established in 2005 to support Pella Regional Health Center in its mission to provide healthcare and healing services with Christian compassion.
While our history may be short, the strength and stability that we have started ensures a bright and promising long-term future—not only for the Foundation itself, but also for the people we serve. From seniors who need a little help to continue living independently to newborns who are dependent on so many, from adults battling chronic disease to youngsters benefiting from our educational offerings, we strive to reach every generation—in every community we serve
Making a Gift
There is no greater gift—and no greater reward—than providing a positive influence on someone's life. Throughout our lives, we do this in many ways. It happens every time we care for a child or grandchild, pass on a life lesson to a young person, volunteer to help the less fortunate or dedicate time and energy to a church.
When you entrust us with a gift, it is our goal to give you the same sense of reward and accomplishment. This idea is at the very root of our philosophy. At the Pella Regional Health Center Foundation, we pledge to make your gift make a difference.
We put our energy—and your money—to work making individual lives healthier and happier. And you can see the results all around you.

Planned Giving
Some gifts come from the heart--an emotional response meant to fulfill need. Some gifts come from the head--a logical response to solve a problem in a practical way. Planned Gifts to Pella Regional Health Center Foundation can be both--a practical way to fulfill a need.
Technically speaking, a planned gift is a formal agreement for the transfer of assets by a donor to a qualified charitable institution. These gifts have the full approval of the US Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service. Planned gifts allow donors to make substantial gifts to Pella Regional Health Center Foundation without spending current income or exhausting retirement resources. Planned gift donors ordinarily retain income rights or other benefits from the gift during their lifetimes, and may provide substantial income and estate tax advantages to the donor. Several donors have already made planned gifts to the Pella Regional Health Center Foundation.
Types of Planned Gifts include:
Bequests--through a clause in one’s will to leave property to Pella Regional Health Center Foundation for a specific amount, a percentage of the estate, or the residue of the estate after other bequests have been made.
Charitable Gift Annuities--created by an irrevocable transfer of money or property to Pella Regional Health Center Foundation in exchange for a guaranteed income for life.
Charitable Remainder Trusts--a formal contract administered by a trustee, in the form of either an Annuity Trust (fixed dollar return) and Unitrust (fixed percentage return of trust assets valued annually).
Gift of Farm or Residence with Life Estate--giving a gift or property, while retaining lifetime use of that property.
Retirement Plan Assets--by naming Pella Regional Health Center Foundation as beneficiary for all or a percentage of the assets.
Life Insurance Gifts--by designating Pella Regional Health Center Foundation as partial or sole beneficiary or owner and beneficiary of a new or existing policy.
Someone once said that you can judge the maturity of a society by how well it prepares for its great-great-grandchildren. Planned giving allows donors to help make those preparations by providing quality healthcare for future generations of Pella area residents.
Legacy Society
The Legacy Society recognizes and honors (during their lifetime) those individuals whose vision and generosity move them to support the PRHC Foundation. The Legacy Society Members are people who have made specific plans to provide the PRHC Foundation in one of the following methods:
•Specific provision by will
•Creation of a charitable trust
•Purchase of a charitable gift annuity or a life insurance policy
•Gift of farm or residence with life estate reserved
•Retirement plan assets
•Gift of $5000 or more to the Endowment Fund

"Pella Regional Health Center has been giving quality dependable service to Pella and surrounding communities for over 45 years. It has grown from an original staff of 20 employees and 7 doctors to now over 765 employees and 42 doctors. We are indeed fortunate and blessed to have the best of medical care right here in Pella with doctors willing to come from Des Moines and other areas for specific treatment. I
continue to support our healthcare
facility as it enters the next stage of growth and improvement.”
--Joan Farver

Regional Health Center, although he was also a benefactor, he was much more than that. He was a long-time resident, friend and supporter of the organization. Hap and his wife, Frances, lived the spirit of philanthropy. They recognized what Pella Regional Health Center
provides for the community of Pella and the surrounding area. The
endowment that they left behind was the inspiration for Pella Regional to create the foundation---which will help their legacy live on for generations to come.”
--Arie Boot, Close friend to the late Franklin “Hap” and Frances Van Gorp
In Joan Vande Krol’s 35 plus-year career, she has worn many hats. From a staff nurse, to the Director of Inpatient Services, to the Staff Development Specialist. She’s seen great progress in patient care and healthcare. An advance in patient care that she’s been a major advocate for are all private patient rooms. Research has proven that private patient rooms speed healing, reduce infection rates and make patients more comfortable. The current building project, Building for the Future of Healthcare, will include all private patient rooms that feature a family area.
“I’ve always been proud to be an employee of Pella Regional Health Center. I’ve been proud of the high quality of care that we offer our patients. Private patient rooms are another thing that we can do to maintain that high level of quality. My husband, Keith and I wanted to show and give our support to not only my employer, but to a vital community service. We believe that this current building project is truly building for the future of healthcare”
Keith and Joan Vande Krol, Charter Legacy Society Members

Partners with a Vision campaign
First-Ever Pella Regional Employee Campaign Sets High Bar for the Future
Websters’ Dictionary defines ‘partner’ as ‘one associated with another, especially in action’. That definition certainly is an accurate description of the Pella Regional employees who participated in the Partners with a Vision campaign that kicked-off in June 2006. They have associated with each other to take action to help ensure that the Pella region will have quality healthcare for years to come.
This first ever employee campaign by the Foundation sets a high standard for future campaigns--both in number of employees participating and dollars raised. In total, employee and physician donors made a total commitment of about $200,000. Many employees and physicians pledged $5000 or more and became members of the Legacy Society.
“I’m very pleased that so many of our co-workers were able to participate in the Foundation’s campaign this year,” said Bob Kroese, CEO of Pella Regional. “Apart from being the place we work, the hospital is like our local schools or our police department--it’s a place our community will always need. We all need to be sure it will be here as a place for our children and grandchildren to be born, to have our surgeries when needed, and to always receive quality care.”
Although the inaugural Partners with a Vision Campaign is over, the work of the Foundation will continue long into the future. Plans are already under way to continue the Partners with a Vision Campaign in 2007. Gifts to the Pella Regional Health Center Foundation can be designated to specific needs--Spiritual Services Endowment, Capital Fund, Senior Living Endowment, General Endowment and General Fund.
