What is Included in our Building Project?

After extensive research, we determined that the areas with the greatest need for expansion and renovation are the Medical/Surgical Unit, the Emergency Department, the Urgent Care Department, Medical Imaging, Surgery and the Medical Clinic.

Some key features of each building project priority area are:

The Medical/Surgical Floor:

To allow each patient to have more control of the environment and greatly increase privacy while in the hospital. No more worrying about another patient in the room inadvertently overhearing the details of another's illness or treatment. Research shows patients in private rooms have fewer falls, fewer medication errors, quicker recoveries and shorter stays in the hospital.

We will offer:

  • Private rooms with private bathrooms
  • A family area in each room that include a pull-out sleeper bed and internet access to keep in touch with work and family
  • An improved location with immediate access to the Medical Clinic and Medical Imaging
  • A new design that keeps nurses closer to patients, with patient supplies and information nearby

The Emergency Department, Medical Imaging, and Infusion Services:

To provide faster, more efficient care for patients, as well as increased privacy for those in stressful situations.

    There will be:

  • A new, canopied drop-off area and improved ambulance garage
  • Merging of all Medical Imaging services into one area that is easily accessed by the Emergency/Urgent Care Departments and hospital floor
  • Central workstation to maximize efficiency to increase the quality of care for all patients
  • A quieter, more private infusion center for cancer patietns

    Surgery:

To improve the flow of patients in and out of surgery, allowing those being prepped for a procedure to be separated from those who are recovering. This increases efficiency for the staff, and gives patients more privacy. The new Consultation Room is essential for allowing frank, private discussions between surgeons and family members. The endoscopy suites are needed to keep up with demand for the procedures.

    The area features:

  • A private consultation room for surgeons and families
  • Two new Endoscopy Suites
  • Redesigned pre-op and post-op accommodations

    Medical Clinic:

To keep up with current demand for services and allow for growth

  • More offices for new primary care and current and future specialty doctors, all accessible to the medical/surgical floor
  • A second floor on the current Pella Medical Clinic will allow for easier access to the new Medical/Surgical floor.

    Why do this now?

  • The cost of borrowing funds is at a near record low
  • The cost of construction will continue to rise
  • Our new status as a Critical Access Hospital allows us reimbursement from the government for the depreciation expense on the new construction
  • As the number of Critical Access Hospitals has grown, the competition for Critical Access Hospital funds has increased
