A Wonderful Experience

Pella residents and first-time parents Sarah and David Hecht - originally from the St. Louis area - were thrilled to welcome their daughter to the world in January. After seventeen long hours of labor and little progress, doctors decided that a C-section would be the best option. Dr. Mike Thompson, general surgeon at Pella Regional Health Center, did the procedure while nurses prepared and reassured both nervous parents. Sarah came through the C-section smoothly and remarks, “You can’t even tell there is a scar.” Baby Scarlett Rose finally entered the world, as healthy and happy as ever. “Dr. Hellbusch was wonderful throughout my whole labor,” Sarah says, “She made me feel good about the decisions we made.”
Thanks to prenatal and breastfeeding classes at Pella Regional, Sarah and David are well-prepared to care for their daughter and got answers to their many questions. “The classes were wonderful,” the couple agrees. The Hechts also took advantage of Pella Regional’s Mother/Baby Home Visit; a few days after being released, the nurse visited their home to check and weigh Scarlett, also addressing any concerns the couple had since being on their own. When questions arise, the staff is “reassuring and tell us to call anytime.” They have taken advantage of that offer and called several times.
David and Sarah really appreciated the concern and care from the staff at Pella Regional. They commented, “You almost get kind of attached to the nurses. They’re really friendly and helpful…it seemed like every hour, on the hour, nurses were in checking on us, seeing if we needed anything. They were always right there.”
Looking back on the previous nine months of pregnancy, the Hechts recall being impressed with the 3D ultrasound technology. “It’s not just a heartbeat anymore…it’s a baby!” they say. “We could see her feet and her hands. The 3D is amazing.”
Baby Scarlett is the first grandchild on both sides of the family, and her proud parents cannot wait to show her off to everyone. “She’s such a good baby! We’re excited to see her personality, and her looks are changing every day.” Because of their great experience at Pella Regional, the Hechts joke, “If we ever decide to move back home, we’re going to come up here to have our next one!”
