Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week

PELLA, Iowa – Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week is March 9 – 15. Respiratory Care staff at Pella Regional Health Center helps patients to properly manage their disease so that those who are living with a lung disease do not have to avoid certain activities because they are afraid of getting short of breath.

Pulmonary rehabilitation is for patients with chronic lung diseases like emphysema, bronchitis, and asthma to help them lead full, satisfying lives while restoring them to their highest functional capacity.

Pulmonary rehab can improve quality of life by:
• Decreasing respiratory symptoms and complications
• Encouraging self-management and control over daily breathing function
• Improving physical conditioning and exercise performance
• Improving emotional well-being
• Reducing hospitalizations

Pulmonary rehab combines exercise, education, emotional management and nutrition to help patients improve respiratory symptoms.
