June and July Shining Stars for Pella Regional

Dr. Galyn Vande Zande and Jessica Muster

PELLA, Iowa— Dr. Galyn Vande Zande, Pella Medical Clinic, was selected as June Shining Star and Jessica Muster, Hospice, was selected as July Shining Star recently by co-workers at Pella Regional Health Center.

Vande Zande, resident of Pella, and Muster, resident of Knoxville, were nominated based on Attitude, Commitment, and Sense of Ownership.

Excerpt from Dr. Galyn Vande Zande’s nomination:

“Dr. Vande Zande was recently in Romania for 2 weeks of his own time, and treated 90-100 people each day. He even bought some of the special dressings that he found out a patient there was in need of. He has gone to Romania several times, and always says he gets more from the people than he gives. He has also been a wonderful doctor to me and my son. He is always available for questions as our son’s medical situation is complex. He even came to a court case for him, and the comment I heard from my family was how impressed they were. He also works with the free clinic here in Pella. He really shows our mission statement in all that he does.”

Excerpt from Jessica Muster’s nomination:

“Meeting Jessica for the first time at the Comfort House, I was totally impressed. She had a kindness about her that felt warm. She greeted me with a smile, was soft spoken, and was there to assist me with what was needed.  While I was explaining the procedure I was about to do to the patient Jessica stepped out of the room for a moment. The patient shared they really like Jessica and that she is so kind and helpful.  I soon found out how right the patient was. Jessica could sense my need for assistance before being asked. She also quietly reached up and slid my glad my glasses back up on my nose many times during the procedure as they would slowly glide down while I was bending forward. I was so happy to meet a nurse with such a kind heart and gentle soul.”

Shining Star is a reward and recognition program at Pella Regional designed to acknowledge an employee each month that demonstrates outstanding standards of behavior and inspires others to do their best.

Vande Zande and Muster will each receive a $100 gift, a plaque, and will automatically be included in the Shining Star of the Year award.
