Dr. Michael Thompson Appointed to Iowa Board of Medicine
PELLA, Iowa – Mike Thompson, D.O., general surgeon at Pella Regional Health Center was recently confirmed by the senate to serve on the Iowa Board of Medicine for a three-year term. He serves on the Board's Licensure and Screening committees.
The Board safeguards the public health, safety and welfare by:
- Licensing qualified physicians and acupuncturists;
- Investigating complaints against physicians and acupuncturists, establishing peer review committees, taking corrective action, and monitoring those under board order;
- Operating a program for physicians and acupuncturists with an impairment; and
- Defining the scope of medical and acupuncture practices.
"I am very excited to serve the people of Iowa by being on the Iowa Board of Medicine. It is a great honor and a great responsibility. I am humbled by the opportunity to represent Pella Regional Health Center and the D.O. community by serving on the Board," said Dr. Thompson.
The Licensure Committee recommends to the Board appropriate action on completed applications for licensure. The committee may interview applicants and review licensure examination matters. The Screening Committee receives complaints that a staff committee has recommended for review and closure and determines if investigation or case closure should be recommended to the Board.
